If you ask a Valencian when they would prefer people to visit their city, they usually answer the same thing: «when it’s no longer August». Not because they want fewer tourists — the city needs them and welcomes them well — but because in September and October Valencia returns to being itself, and that’s hard to explain until you experience it.
The climate that no one sells you well enough
September in Valencia: 25-28°C maximum, 17-19°C minimum, more than 8 hours of sunshine per day. October: 20-24°C. The sea remains at the perfect temperature for swimming until mid-October.
But the numbers do not explain the quality of that light. The light of September in Valencia has a different temperature: warmer, more horizontal, more golden. The painters—Sorolla first and foremost—simply called it home.
What changes when the summer ends
Restaurants are returning to normal
In August, the best restaurants have waiting lists. In September, you call the same day. The restaurants on Paseo Neptuno have a table available on a Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. The bars in Russafa are back to having 70% of their tables occupied by people from the neighborhood.

Prices fall between 25 and 40 percent
Accommodation, restaurants, entrance fees to attractions. The difference between August and October can be as much as 25-40% for exactly the same experience. For those with flexibility in their dates, October is the best value for money of the year in Valencia.
Museums without queues
The Silk Exchange in August has a 30-minute wait. In October, direct entry. The Museum of Fine Arts — free and extraordinary — in the fall is a quiet space where you can spend two hours without anyone pushing you.

Plans that only exist in the autumn
The rice harvest in the Albufera
Between September and November, the rice fields of the Albufera Natural Park are the most photogenic landscape of the year. Ochre grains of ripe rice, storks following the harvesters, the lake in its most tranquil version. And the rice of the season served in El Palmar in these months— freshly harvested, without months of storage— has a flavor that Valencians perfectly recognize.
The Night of Saint Donís (October 9)
The Day of the Valencian Community has its own gastronomic ritual: the newlyweds give each other «mocadorets» (muffins made of meringue and candied fruits) and the city celebrates with events in the center. A very Valencian festival that tourists rarely know about.
Perfect climate for running
The Turia Garden in October at 8:00 is one of the best places in the world to run. 17°C, no heat, no crowds. Runners who come to prepare for the Valencia Marathon in December know this well.

Why accommodation in autumn is especially advantageous with direct booking
In low season, apartments are more available and offer better conditions for stays of more than 3 nights. This is the time of year when booking directly makes more sense: without the pressure of high demand that forces intermediaries to maximize their commissions.
The Gran Turia apartments have a guaranteed price all year round when booked directly, but in autumn the difference with the platforms is more noticeable.
